Virunga Lodge is a boutique eco‑luxury retreat perched high on a ridge overlooking the Virunga Volcanoes and the tranquil Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. It blends authentic Rwandan design, warm hospitality, and conservation‑minded luxury to create an unforgettable base for gorilla trekking, nature walks, and cultural immersion.
Rooms
The lodge is made up of 10 bandas (stone‑and‑wood cottages) that reflect traditional Rwandan craftsmanship with vibrant local fabrics, hand‑carved wood furnishings, sisal or woven rugs, and hardwood or tiled floors. Eight standard bandas offer lovely volcano or lake views, private verandas, cosy fireplaces, en‑suite bathrooms with hot showers (solar‑heated), flushing toilets, and mosquito netting. Two deluxe bandas (named Ibiyaga & Ibirunga) go further with private sitting/living rooms, larger terraces, more refined interiors, and extra comfort—ideal for honeymooners or those wanting more space.
Dining
Meals at Virunga Lodge are hearty, wholesome, and regionally inspired, featuring fresh local ingredients. Guests enjoy three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, dinner—often with packed lunches for trekking days, plus a three‑course dinner in the evening. Dining is communal: guests gather around long shared tables, enhancing the social atmosphere. The lodge also offers a bar/lounge with a selection of wines, spirits, cocktails, and non‑alcoholic drinks. Traditional dance performances (Intore dance) in the evenings bring local culture to life.

Set within the Volcanoes National Park region in northern Rwanda, Virunga Lodge sits dramatically between the sweeping vistas of the volcanoes and the shimmering waters of two lakes.
